Fatima Khan Manifesto

During my time at university, I have been actively involved with the Students’ Union, taking on leadership roles such as Chair of Council, UBU Trustee, Islamic Society Vice President, Faculty and Student Representative. I have dedicated myself to representing and supporting students, and I am now ready to take this commitment further as your President of Student and Union Affairs.

My Contributions to the Students’ Union

• Chair of Council

As Chair of Council, I have played a key role in ensuring student voices are heard and acted upon. I have chaired meetings on important issues such as organisational changes and UBU’s future strategies, ensuring transparency and student engagement in decision-making. I have worked closely with sabbatical and executive officers to execute student-led initiatives and hold the officers accountable. Beyond meetings, I’ve supported students in bringing motions forward and advocating for positive change. This role has given me a deep understanding of the Union’s governance and strategic processes, which will help me to drive impactful change.

• Student Trustee

As a Student Trustee, I have gained experience in overseeing the Union’s long-term strategic direction. I have worked with external Trustees and Union staff to ensure student needs remain at the core of decision-making. This role has strengthened my ability to challenge policies and advocate for students, pushing for greater transparency and stronger representation in key decisions.

• Vice President of the Islamic Society

As VP of Bradford ISOC, I have successfully organised large-scale events, collaborating with the Union and external organisations to enhance student engagement. I have led Charity Week, raising funds for war-stricken countries, and organised a Palestine Memorial event with UBU and other societies to raise awareness. My work with societies has shown me the importance of Union support for student-led initiatives. I have navigated Union processes and understand the challenges societies face, and I will work tirelessly to ensure they receive the support they need.

• Faculty Representative

As Faculty Representative, I have collaborated with students across different courses to address common concerns, working closely with staff to find solutions. I have been a part of the FoMLSS Faculty Board and University Senate, gaining insight into university decision-making processes. This experience will help me effectively campaign for better academic support and stronger student representation in academic decisions.

• Student Representative

As Student Representative, I have worked to ensure student voices are heard at faculty and university levels. I have addressed issues such as coursework deadlines and academic support, engaging with peers and university staff to push for meaningful changes. This role has strengthened my ability to listen and advocate for students—skills that will be invaluable as President of Student and Union Affairs.

Each of these roles has given me a strong understanding of the challenges students face, from academics to extracurricular activities. I am committed to making the Students’ Union more transparent and student led. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure student voices are not just heard but acted upon.
