Reuben McKay Manifesto

It is no secret that universities across the UK are struggling and Bradford is no exception. The last year has seen our university make changes like staff redundancies and the recently proposed faculty restructure to try and address its difficulties. …but when were we asked about these changes? Were our voices heard? Was the impact on our student experience considered? Over the last two years, as a student representative at the university, I’ve already helped keep student-only spaces open and free from staff, fought for all students to have free printing, challenged failures in administration, and recently begun a campaign for students to retain their email accounts after graduation; but now, I want to go further. As your next Education Sabbatical Officer, I want to push for the university to stand by its claim that this is a place for us to be and belong and where students are a part of a community. I want to ensure that we, the students, have a voice and a direct say in the future of the university; that we are valued and our time here is valuable. With your support, I will address the challenges to our university experience, to teaching and learning, and together we will be proud to say we are Bradford!

Raizana Razeen Manifesto

Re-Election for Education Officer

As the current Education Officer at the University of Bradford Students’ Union, I have dedicated my term to empowering students, amplifying their voices, and driving meaningful change. Through strong leadership, collaboration, and proactive engagement, I have focused on improving the academic experience for all students. I have made significant progress in student representation, academic policy reform, and accessibility initiatives. I have worked closely with university leadership, faculty staffs, and student representatives to ensure student concerns are heard and addressed.

A key milestone of my term has been strengthening student representation across faculties. I successfully facilitated the election of 369 student representatives and 22 faculty representatives, ensured that students from all courses have a voice in decision-making. To enhance engagement, I introduced structured faculty-student representative meetings, creating a platform for continuous dialogue between students and university leadership. I have attended programme inductions to encourage student involvement. Additionally, I integrated student representatives' details into Canvas, making it easier for students to connect with their representatives and raise concerns effectively.

To address accessibility challenges, I have championed initiatives such as Laptop Loan Extensions, which is currently in development with Library and IT services. In response to student feedback, I have secured £20 added printing credit for students and worked alongside IT and established a £150 printing allowance for students with learning disabilities. Additionally, I initiated a system for students to log IT tickets from device when their printing credit is exhausted, ensuring seamless access to learning resources.

Academic policy reform has been a core focus of my role. I am currently overseeing a full-scale review of undergraduate and postgraduate regulations for the 2025-2026 academic year, working alongside university staffs to improve assessment policies, feedback mechanisms, and academic regulations. My efforts have included conducting over 35 programme-specific consultations, gathering direct student feedback on assessment clarity, module structures, and learning resources. I have worked closely with programme leaders and student representatives to resolve concerns and implement improvements in post-module feedback.Through active participation in University Council, Senate, the Learning and Teaching Committee, and various subcommittees, I have ensured that student voices are represented in high-level decision-making.

Beyond academic policy, I am working to improve the student experience through campaigns. In plan to lead faculty-wide campaigns in collaboration with EDI and Associate Dean to launch faculty-wide campaigns promoting inclusivity. Working alongside Head of Librarian, I have played a key role in the decolonisation of the curriculum. My work with the Bradford Energy Network Project has increased student awareness of sustainability initiatives. I have also collaborated on the introduction of Echo360 lecture capture technology for an effective learning structure.

If re-elected, I will continue working on improving accessibility, expanding student representation, ensuring fair and effective assessment processes. I will strengthen faculty-wide initiatives and enhance student engagement in academic decision-making. My experience, dedication, and passion for student advocacy makes me the best candidate to continue serving as your Education Officer. Let’s work together to create a university experience that truly reflects students’ needs and aspirations.
