Anas Iqbal Manifesto

My journey with UBU began when I took over the role of president for the biggest society on campus. I was very passionate about it and worked tirelessly making the society win ‘society of the year’ for two years in a row. During my tenure, we saw a significant increase in membership, which contributed to higher overall engagement within UBU. In collaboration with various societies, we organised successful fundraising initiatives and hosted the largest Ramadan Iftar of the year. I got elected as a lay member 23/24, this opportunity supplied me an insight into decision making processes and allowed me to push forward student led initiatives. This position also encouraged me to advocate for the victims of the Gaza conflict, an issue I have long been enthusiastic about. Additionally, I played a key role in promoting the replacement of Starbucks with alternative options, further contributing to UBU's decision-making processes.

As President, I have had the privilege of collaborating with external charities, such as One Ummah, to organise fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting victims of war, famine, and natural disasters. Additionally, I have worked closely with Bradford Council to aid communities from low-income backgrounds and support homeless outreach programs. I was later elected as Community and Activities Officer for the 2024/25 academic year. In my current position, I have consistently dedicated myself to enhancing the student experience by organising and delivering quality activities through societies, clubs, and events.

As Community and Activities Officer, I have worked closely with the Activities Committee, society executives, students, and key external organisations, including Mind, the NHS, and West Yorkshire Police, to foster a supportive and engaging campus environment. I’ve led major campaigns such as Black History Month, 16 Days of Activism, Reclaim the Night, and Islamophobia Awareness Week. I also serve on the Bradford City of Culture 2025 Board, where I’ve connected our societies and sports clubs with the City of Culture project. I have supported society events and actively taken part in Freshers' Week socials. I have delivered a full week of engaging Freshers' events collaborating with societies, sports clubs and external organisations like Bradford bulls, Bradford city football club, Mind etc. Notably, I worked with the Boxing Club to offer self-defence classes for women and girls. I have also organised football tournament in collaboration with 5-a-side club.

If elected President of Activities, I will focus on making societies and sports clubs more accessible and inclusive. By streamlining membership and advocating for improved timetabling, I aim to enhance student engagement and ensure greater participation in union activities. I will continue to support and expand societies and sports clubs, ensuring they work together more closely by organising friendly sports matches between societies and clubs. I am committed to making a lasting impact and will work tirelessly to enhance student life at the University of Bradford.

KAITLYN WINTER Manifesto

Hey!

I'm Kaitlyn and I am wanting to be your new activities officer !!!

I have been involved with sports & societies in the university for the past 3 years. I am currently president of the Netball club, Secretary of women’s rugby and Treasurer of swimming. I have also had many other executive roles in my prior years within both sports and societies such as captain, social media exec and social secretary. Through having these roles I have had many responsibilities such as organising BUCS teams, sorting umpires each week, ensuring finances are monitored (such as memberships are paid, umpires have been paid, sponsorships are attained), ensuring good mental health and wellbeing of club members is maintained and guaranteeing training times & facilities are booked.

I have also been on the sports council for 2 years as RAG officer and Events officer. During my time on this council, I have had firsthand experience of organising events such as university charity events, intramural and varsity, so I know what it takes to be apart of this university sabbatical team.

I have many ideas about how we can make this university even better. But my 5 main points are:

  • TRANSPARANCY ~ I will be 100% transparent over anything that will affect your sport or society and not hide anything from you!
  • UNITY ~ form a unity between sports and societies. Holding more joint social events throughout the university calendar.
  • INCLUSIVITY ~  making everything open and inclusive for all. No matter your ability or commitment level you will be able to participate in whatever you desire.
  • RAPPORT ~ Forming close relationships between the sabbatical team and students to ensure you feel comfortable to come to me regarding any problems or queries that you may have, being your club or external matters.
  •  RESPECT ~ I will have respect for you if you do for me. I have the belief that I am no better than any other individual club members therefore, as long as you respect my actions as activities officer, I will ensure that you feel as though you are also respected and heard!

So let’s get a fresh face on the sabbatical team and make a real difference to the UBU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

SAM PITTMAN Manifesto

I’m Sam, a Film & VFX Technology student, and I’m running for President of Activities.

Since my very first semester, I’ve held various executive roles, including Social Media Exec for VGES (Video Games & Esports) and PiSoc (Computer Science), Event Coordinator for the Film Society, Captain of the Men’s Hockey Team, and multiple positions in Trampolining over the years. As President of Trampolining, I led the club to win “UBU’s Most Improved Sports Club of 23/24”.

I’ve also been part of the UBU Sports Committee for two years. First as RAG Officer and now as Chair. These roles have given me valuable insight into how the UBU operates. As Chair, I've attended UBU council meetings, advocated for First Aid training for execs, launched a survey to improve international student engagement in sports, and pushed for better marketing strategies across UBU sectors.

Being a low-income student having grown up in France, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new environment. My academic background and experiences provide me with skills in marketing, team management, and communication. While my course doesn’t directly reflect the role I'd be going into, my leadership experiences equip me with transferable skills and a fresh perspective.

In my opinion, extracurricular activities are essential to the university experience. They allow students to make connections, create lasting memories, and open doors to opportunities. I’ve had my go at student life and now I want to ensure others have an even better experience. For those of you who know me, you’ll know that I have a very strong work ethic and determination, I won’t stop until tasks are sorted and completed effectively.

My Vision

Enhance Promotion & Communication

• Improve marketing strategies so students can easily discover opportunities from day one onwards.

Make Activities More Inclusive & Accessible

• Offer more diverse programs reflecting the student body demographic.

• Develop more opportunities for activities such as disability-friendly and female-only options.

• Collaborate with the International Students Officer to understand and cater to International Student needs.

Stronger Student Voice & Support

• Ensure that student feedback helps shape UBU policies and events.

• Show more support to students running activities through incentives like professional development opportunities or special benefits.

University-UBU Connection

• Strengthen collaboration between the University and UBU to enhance promotion and the general student activities experience.

Affordable Memberships

• Advocate for more affordable sports memberships and financial support for low-income students.

Bridging Sports & Societies

• Promote more joint events between sports and societies to build a stronger community.

Revitalizing Key Events

• Help restore major events like Varsity, Intramural, Freshers’ Week, and the Ubies to their former glory.

Financial Sustainability & Partnerships

• Help improve financial management for groups and seek sponsorships to expand resources.

Mental Health & Well-being

• Promote mental health awareness within activities and give execs resources to support members and colleagues.

First Aid Training

• Provide accessible first aid training for sports and society execs to ensure safer environments.

I aim to make UBU activities more engaging, inclusive, and accessible for every student. Vote for me to ensure your voice is heard and your student life is unforgettable (in a good way)!
